Elections

BJIL Board elections are held every spring before the semester’s end.

Elected Positions

Editors-in-Chief (2): The EiCs are ultimately responsible for all aspects of BJIL: the editorial process and final publication, the Riesenfeld Symposium, and events. EiCs have considerable latitude in setting a course for BJIL. For example, in 2008-09, the BJIL website and Publicist online journal were initiatives of the EiCs.  Owing to the substantial responsibility (and thus workload) of the EiC role, BJIL has frequently been headed by co-Editors-in-Chief. EiC candidates generally run together in elections.

International Law Society (ILS) Chair (2): ILS Chairs manage Boalt’s international law community, coordinating social events and speaking events ranging from substantive international issues to career panels.

Submissions Editor (2): The Submissions Editors (SE) are responsible for managing the Submissions Committee, which selects articles for publication. They maintain regular records of submissions as they come in, as they are accepted or rejected, and they interface directly with authors regarding the status of submissions. SEs also ensure that expedited articles are rushed through this process. SEs manage and delegate responsibilities to Committee members including first and second reads and other review procedures.

Articles Editor (8): Articles Editors (AEs) are responsible for managing the editorial process from beginning to end, and managing the Journal’s relationship with authors. Each AE chooses and is responsible for a single article each semester. They then manage the delegation of packet work to their packeteers. AEs communicate directly with their authors, providing initial feedback after the first read of their article, and then offering more detailed edits when they have incorporated the editorial input of their packeteers.

Symposium Editor (2): The Symposium Editors have a very broad job description which comes with very broad rewards. working together with the Board, they choose a topic for the annual Riesenfeld Symposium, work with faculty to identify participants and a key-note speaker, and work with the entire legal community to invite sponsors for the event. The Symposium Editors are responsible for choosing panelists, planning panel topics, organizing the day’s itinerary, etc.

Book Review Editor: The Book Review Editor’s (BRE) job is a microcosm of the entire BJIL production process. The BRE chooses the topic for the book review (together with the Board), and then seeks out a qualified, well-known legal expert to review a new and cutting edge book in that area.  The book review editor, together with some packeteers, will then begin an editing process that is similar to that of the Articles Editors.

Publicist Editor: The Publicist Editor plays an integral part in running our online edition, Publicist. The Publicist Editor solicits and reviews articles to be published online and is in charge of the three Publicist Articles Editors.
