News and Events

Welcome for the 2011-2012 Academic Year!
We're looking forward to working with BJIL members in the coming year -- editors have been hard at work this summer reviewing journal submissions, selecting articles, and making other BJIL plans. Watch this space for information about our first official meeting and other BJIL start-of-term events!
A special welcome goes out to the 1Ls and transfer students; we encourage you to get involved with BJIL! More information will be available at the student activities fair and other forums during the beginning of the semester. If you have any questions, please reach out to Editors-in-Chief Dan McGinley and Sarah Moros at contactbjil@gmail.com.

Copenhagen Negotiation Competition
April13, 2011
The Copenhagen competition is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to negotiate with delegations of law students from all around the world, on cutting-edge issues in international and humanitarian law. Last year, the Berkeley team had the opportunity to negotiate on the topic "Access to Medicines" with delegations from Australia, Barbados, America, Singapore, India, Ethiopia, and Israel -- all while being hosted in beautiful Copenhagen, Denmark. This year, the topic of the competition is "Access to Food". More information about the competition can be found on the official website: http://jura.ku.dk/copenhagencompetition/.
Each year, the Board of Advocates conducts tryouts and selects four students to represent our law school in this prestigious competition. The team works together over the summer to create a written submission, and if the submission is chosen, the team will win an all-expenses paid trip to Copenhagen to participate in the oral rounds.
The written submission deadline is July 15, 2011, and the oral rounds will be held from November 28-December 2, 2011. If you are interested in trying out, attend the Board of Advocates ifo session Wednesday, April 13 at 12:30 in Room 170.
