History of the Herma Hill Kay Fellowships: Professor Kay was the first woman to hold the position of Dean at Boalt Hall and continues to teach here today. Inspired by Professor Kay’s impressive legacy in the area of women’s rights, the students of the Boalt Hall Women’s Association created a fellowship in her name in 1999.

The recipients of the fellowship are chosen for their potential to develop and implement a broad range of legal work on behalf of women. This fellowship offers students the flexibility to use their talent and initiative to develop original projects. Past fellows assisted under served populations such as domestic violence survivors, immigrant children in need, and female refugees in South Africa.
