WHAT WE DO
RECRUITING AND PROMOTING WOMEN
Firms and organizations participating in the On-Campus Interview
Program come together with Boalt students for a reception to celebrate
and honor the advances women have made in the legal profession, while
recognizing the struggles women still face in the legal community.
WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP FORUM
This conference is geared toward educating and inspiring women students
to be leaders in the profession and in the community. The array of
panelists and topics reflects the diversity of women in the law.
HERMA HILL KAY FELLOWSHIP AND RECEPTION
BHWA founded the HHK Fellowship in 1999 to honor Professor Herma Hill
Kay, the first woman Dean at Boalt Hall. The fellowship funds summer
public interest work focusing on women’s rights and gender issues. A
reception honors the fellowship recipients.
FACULTY TEAS
Women faculty members share their experiences and thoughts about the
legal profession and life at Boalt in an informal and collegial
atmosphere.
SPEAKER SERIES
Lunch-hour and evening talks bring a range of women leaders to discuss
topics such as legal career paths and work/life balance.
INFORMAL MENTORSHIP
New BHWA members are connected with 2L and 3L members with similar
interests, who are available to provide advice and information
throughout the year.
ADVICE SERIES
In addition to informal mentorship between members of different class
levels, we hold brown bag lunches around topics such as choosing
electives and looking for summer work.
ACTIVISM
BHWA is committed to community activism. Recent activities included a
suit drive to benefit “Wardrobe for Opportunity,” a fundraiser for the
Family Violence Law Center in Oakland, and campaigning for women judges.
BARRISTER'S BALL
Annual fundraiser in support of the Herma Hill Kay Fellowship.
