Volume 15

The New Faces of Justice

by Eddy Zheng

In this article, Eddie Zheng is giving a speech at the 8th Annual Bay Area Asian Pacific American Law Students Association Conference where he received the Outstanding Leadership Award. In his speech, Zheng recounts his time and experience in prison and notes how “mental freedom” differentiates from “physical freedom” in reference to the ability to critically think and analyze. After feeling this mental liberation, Zheng recalls how the power of knowledge and education has empowered him to pursue social justice in his community. From there, he was involved in various educational programs. He then went on to interact with students from all over Bay Area college campuses in hopes of empowering and inspiring them to pursue social justice.
