Challenges of Policy and Practice in Under-Resourced Asian American Communities: Analyzing Public Education, Health, and Development Issues with Cambodian American Women

by Shirley Tang

In this article, Shirley Tang analyzes the demographics of Asian Americans in Metro Boston. From 2000-2005, the Asian American population has out grown all other racial groups in Massachusetts. Inadequate means of data collection have led to Asian Americans being viewed as a homogenized group. This lack of data collection neglects the experience of several important groups, particularly Khmer American women. Tang ultimately emphasizes the importance of conducting proper date collection in order to be inclusive and accurately represent various Asian American groups because the data influences how policymakers address issues affecting Asian Americans.
